HOBART-BASED business Liferaft Systems Australia (LSA) has appointed Mollie Grainger to the position of business manager.

LSA manufactures inflatable marine evacuation systems that can be deployed in under three minutes to evacuate 100 people at a time.

It also manufactures other marine safety products including inflatable pontoons and rescue pontoons.

Ms Grainger said the LSA order books were “very full”, with additional significant orders pending.

“LSA has orders confirmed for the next two years at least, with these contracts scheduled for delivery out to 2025,” she said.

“To meet this demand, LSA has recently expanded its production capacity by 30 per cent with the addition of new manufacturing space.

“The company employs 70 people full-time and operates 12-hour shifts six days a week.

“In summary, the future of the business looks extremely positive thanks to strong interest from new and existing customers and plans to develop new marine evacuation products.”

Ms Grainger, who has business and law degrees, said despite this success, combined with the fact that LSA pioneered slide-based marine evacuation systems nearly 30 years ago, there was no room for complacency.

“LSA needs to be innovative,” she said.

“It is important to provide customers with a high-quality product, a high level of service and value for money.

“These are key factors behind our success and will continue going forward.”

LSA exports 95 per cent of its products to markets overseas.

The company’s biggest markets are in Europe and the United States.

Its products are suitable for vessels of all types and sizes, including passenger and personnel carrying vessels, conventional ferries, high-speed craft, cruise ships, military vessels and large private yachts.
