Paraquad Tasmania receives $10,000 grant for contribution to community

A LOCAL association has been acknowledged for its significant contribution to supporting Tasmanians living with spinal cord injuries and other physical disabilities.

Staff from the Commonwealth Bank Glenorchy Branch nominated the ParaQuad Association of Tasmania Inc. (ParaQuad Tas) for a $10,000 Centenary Grant.

ParaQuad Tas coordinator Carmel Clark said the donation was a “significant and welcome” addition.

“The association was surprised and delighted to have been chosen to receive the donation,” she said.

“Funding is becoming more and more competitive and the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme has changed the landscape for many charities.”

ParaQuad Tas offers programs directed at youth including disability sports, weekend camps and delivering risk mitigation programs into high schools and colleges.

The organisation employs staff and volunteers with a physical disability to deliver sport and recreation programs, education programs and offer peer support.

In celebration of a 100-year legacy of giving, Commonwealth Bank employees gave $10 million to community organisations.

Valued at $10,000 each, 1000 Centenary Grants were distributed around Australia.

“We’re thrilled to be able to support organisations like ParaQuad Tasmania in the important work they do for our local community,” Commonwealth Bank Glenorchy branch manager Maree Aitchison said.

“It’s especially meaningful that we are able to celebrate 100 years of employee giving by nominating an organisation to receive a Centenary Grant in our local community.”

ParaQuad Tas is a Tasmanian spinal cord injury and physical disability advocacy organisation whose mission is to inspire and support Tasmanians living with physical disability to reach their full potential.
