Opening of Barossa Park YMCA Wellness Centre

THE Glenorchy community is set to benefit from access to much-needed hydrotherapy rehabilitation and fitness facilities with the opening of the new Barossa Park YMCA Wellness Centre.

The multi-million dollar development, which will be managed by YMCA Hobart, features a 20-metre hydrotherapy pool which incorporates best-practice therapeutic standards for hydrotherapy rehabilitation.

The complex will play an important role in enhancing rehabilitation outcomes for users, with the facility equipped to assist people with mobility issues and professionals to care for those recovering from injury or overcoming disabilities.

The facility will also provide water safety instruction for children and adults, ranging from water orientation to refining swimming stroke technique.

Aquatic exercise classes will also be available, including classes suitable for pregnant women and the elderly.

Attending the official opening of the centre recently, Speaker of the House of Assembly and Liberal Member for Denison Elise Archer said she was impressed by the facilities on offer.

“The hydrotherapy pool will be well utilised by people of all ages, including residents at OneCare and fills a gap in the services currently on offer in the greater Hobart area,” she said.

Also in attendance was Independent Member for Elwick Adriana Taylor who said OneCare should be commended for the initiative.

“The availability of hydrotherapy services in the city has been long awaited and the need has been clearly demonstrated over many years,” Mrs Taylor said.

The centre is named after the late Salim Sultan in recognition of his kind and generous spirit and the support received from the Sultan family in developing the facility.

It is located at Clydesdale Avenue in Glenorchy and is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
