Local table tennis league kicks off winter roster

THE Northern Suburbs Table Tennis League (NSTTL) is rallying against the winter blues with the launch of its ‘Winter Wednesday Night Roster’, which will kick off on 12 July.

Based in the CWA building at the Hobart Showgrounds, the NSTTL caters for all levels of skill and age groups.

In addition to its upcoming winter roster, the club also conducts roster competitions on Mondays (for veterans aged 30-years and over) and Fridays – all of which run from 7pm-9.30pm.

Entry costs $8, which includes registration and insurance.

NSTTL president Daniel Huxtable said table tennis was a low impact activity suitable for all ages.

He said the sport helped to improve reflexes and fitness.

“Our players range in age from pre-teens to our oldest veteran Noel Smith, who started playing three-years-ago at the age of 83-years and loves the game,” he said.

“We also provide facilities for athletes with a disability and one of our coaches is a national Paralympic table tennis coach.

“Our club has conducted a number of important championship events over the years and our Australian representative players include Kristel and Julia Banasik, Rodney, Benita and John Huskins, TJ Ingram, Sam Jackson, Daniel Page, Roger Massie, Harshika Herath, David Carpenter, Zik Abdullah, Lydia Massie, Luke Vaiciulevicius, Aidan Cutlan and Fred Turner.

“We welcome anyone interested in trying out the sport and our mix of roster competitions allow for all skill levels, from beginner to advanced.”

Bats and balls are supplied and participants are only asked to bring a pair of decent shoes.
