Local dog trainer named Pet Dog Ambassador

PROFESSIONAL dog trainer and owner of CleverPawz, Vicki Cleaver, has been awarded the title of Pet Dog Ambassador (PDA) instructor/assessor as part of a new international skills assessment program that is being rolled out across Australia.

Run by the Pet Professional Guild (PPG), PDA is a licensing initiative that focuses on improving and strengthening dogs’ and their guardians’ skills, both in a class situation and in the ‘real world’.

As a result of her successful dog training business, which adopts a force-free training philosophy based on behavioural science, Ms Cleaver can now add Pet Dog Ambassador instructor and assessor to her list of qualifications.

Ms Cleaver said she was “delighted” to see PPG develop this innovative new program.

“I will now be able to implement it into my business and share the benefits of force-free training and pet care with my local community,” she said.

“Through my role as a PDA instructor/assessor, I will be able to help the program acknowledge the hard work and commitment that dog guardians and their pets undertake to make their shared lives enjoyable.

“I also hope to encourage dog guardians to continue their training efforts and to develop new skills, abilities and knowledge.”

Designed as a progressive assessment, PDA is a five-level program with each level building on the previous, working up from puppy/beginner to championship level.

Guardians receive recognition in the form of medals and certificates at the successful completion of each level.

“Agility dogs, show dogs, obedience dogs and many other dog sport competitors already gain titles as acknowledgement for the hours of dedicated training undertaken,” Ms Cleaver said.

“The PDA program ensures that pet dogs and their people can now gain similar accolades,” she said.

PPG president Niki Tudge said PDA was another exciting product for PPG members to provide to their local communities.

“Not only does it provide the curriculum, skills and assessment markers, but it also offers a wealth of marketing support and tools to help the program grow,” she said.

“I am very proud of the international effort that has gone into bringing this product to completion.

“We congratulate and fully support Vicki Cleaver in taking the initiative to offer this program to her local community.”

Owned and operated by Vicki Cleaver, CleverPawz specialises in the delivery of positive reinforcement dog training services.
