Life saving boost for fitness-minded seniors

ALL About Fitness is set to receive a life saving boost following a funding announcement of $2,500 for the purchase of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

The funding, which was spearheaded by Labor Candidate for Denison Zelinda Sherlock, will be delivered through a majority Labor Rebecca White Government.

Operating at Montrose Bay Yacht Club, All About Fitness provides essential fitness and health training to community members aged more than 50-years.

All About Fitness founder Paul Hamilton said a defibrillator was needed on site during sessions in case of emergency and in line with Workplace Health and Safety regulations.

“It is crucial to the health interests of all the seniors participating in our sessions, who often have a variety of health issues, that an AED is readily available in case of an emergency,” he said.

“Zelinda understood this need within the community and took it upon herself to submit a proposal for a community grant to the Labor Party.

“I feel delighted to have received this grant funding, as it will now provide our older members with some much needed security during activities.

“As soon as the funding has been allocated to us, we will purchase and install the AED, as well as offer a presentation on Defibrillator Familiarisation Training.”

Ms Sherlock said she had been actively seeking to get out into the community to better understand the needs of the people.

“I believe that the community is our biggest resource and so I’m seeking to actively listen to the needs of the people so I know how to best represent them,” she said.

“All About Fitness provides well rounded fitness routines and education sessions, motivating and inspiring our seniors at all levels to be their best.

“Since the inception of the not-for-profit health presentations, the organisation has seen an amazing response, with more than 400 elderly people with a variety of health issues coming through its doors.

“I was delighted to submit a proposal for a community grant on behalf of the organisation and under a majority Labor Government, this grant for a defibrillator has been approved.”
