WEST Moonah Community House has joined forces with the Glenorchy Football Club to offer a number of services to people who are struggling through Coronavirus regulations.

The West Moonah Community House is one of 35 neighbourhood houses across Tasmanian that supports its local community.

Manager Mel Knuckey said they had been preparing food items and cooked meals that could be picked up from the community house or delivered for $5.

“We have things such as mixed fruit and veggie boxes, a variety of meat packs, eggs, milk and bread, baked goods and pre-prepared meals,” she said.

“Glenorchy Football Club has come on board to do all of our deliveries every Wednesday, which has been an amazing support to us and the community.

“We’re also in the process of establishing an online platform where we’ll have a variety of classes and activities that people can access such as exercise classes, cooking classes, and things to do with your children.

West Moonah Community House is also offering free learner driver training via Zoom for people to obtain their L1s, as well as NILS (No Interest Loan Scheme) loans.

“The service we have on offer are really important because we’re trying to promote people to stay at home and social distance,” Ms Knuckey said.

“The feedback we have received has been really great with people grateful that these services are out there for the community.”

Ms Knuckey said the West Moonah Community House relied highly on volunteers.

“We have a lot of volunteers that assist through our community shed, community garden or go out and mow lawns and do gardens for people in the local community,” she said.

“We also have a lot of people volunteering their time to run classes for the community and helping in the office.

“We’re keen to have more people involved in the house and everyone is welcome to access the services we are providing.”

Food orders must be in by 5pm Thursday for collection or delivery the following Wednesday.
