JackJumpers sign experienced American guard

THE Tasmania JackJumpers have added more experience to their roster, signing American guard Dakota Mathias ahead of the upcoming NBL season.
The 30-year-old from Indianapolis arrives with experience in both the NBA and the NBA G League and is expected to strengthen the JackJumpers’ backcourt with his shooting ability and basketball IQ.
Mathias said he was looking forward to joining the club and playing in front of Tasmanian fans.
“I pride myself on making winning plays and doing whatever I can to help the team win,” he said.
“I’m excited to get to Tasmania and show the fans what I can bring to the team.”
JackJumpers general manager of basketball operations Darren Smith said Mathias’ experience and shooting ability would be valuable additions.
“He’s a tough, disciplined athlete whose ability to shoot the ball can change games,” he said.
“He’ll complement our group well, particularly alongside a creative point guard like Taran Armstrong, who does a great job creating opportunities for his teammates.”
Mathias will relocate to Tasmania with his wife, Gabby, and their two young sons, Marcus and JD.
“My family and I are really excited to become part of the JackJumpers family,” he said.
“We can’t wait to experience Tasmania, its culture and everything the state has to offer.”
JackJumpers coach Scott Roth said the club had been tracking Mathias for several years.
“I’ve followed Dakota for the past four or five years,” he said.
“He brings outstanding experience, he’s an excellent shooter and he fits really well with the group we’ve assembled.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming him to Tasmania.”
