History repeats for Glenorchy City Bowls Club

THE 2017/18 lawn bowls season was a successful one for the Glenorchy City Bowls Club (GCBC).

The club was presented with the Fitzgerald Trophy for Club of the Year at the Bowls Tasmania South (BTS) presentation night.

The Fitzgerald Trophy is presented each year to the bowls club with the best win/loss record in pennant bowls in the BTS pennant competition.

“It was a very proud moment when we once again were announced as winners of the trophy,” club president Michael O’Brien said.

“We have enjoyed a very successful pennant season at all levels of competition and it is great to know these performances have been recognised in such an emphatic way.

“It is a wonderful springboard for the coming year and has been complemented by keen interest in membership with a number of new members joining the club in both the ladies and gents categories.”

GCBC fields six sides in Saturday, Ladies Thursday and Men’s Midweek Pennant – four of which made the finals.

Two of the club’s three Saturday sides won premierships in divisions three and four.

For the division three team, there was double celebration with its promotion to division two in 2018/19 season having finished on top of the ladder.

“This was a great effort by those involved throughout the year and in the finals,” Mr O’Brien said.

“At every level there has been a high level of performance shown which instils great confidence for 2018/19 pennant season.”
