GLENORCHY-based aged care provider Glenview Community Services has taken out the state’s top honours in aged care after being recently awarded the 2019 Aged & Community Services Australia (ACSA) Provider of the Year Award (Tasmania).

Having been recognised as the state’s leading body for aged care providers, Glenview is now in the running for the national award, which will be announced in October.

Glenview chief executive officer Lucy O’Flaherty said the award recognised the level of service provided by the hard working staff and volunteers.

“It shows a level of service excellence, a level of service innovations, a commitment to the community and a commitment to exceeding standards,” she said.

“Glenview, like many other aged care providers, was born out of volunteers coming together in the late 1940s and providing a service because no one else was.

“We’ve been doing this stuff for many years because it’s the right thing to do, so these awards are a lovely way of acknowledging the effort and time of, not just myself and the current team, but also those who have come before us.”

Ms O’Flaherty said Glenview actively sought feedback from residents and families to continue to improve their services.

“When something goes wrong, we’re committed to open disclosure and being really upfront about what we can do to make good and make sure we get things right the next time,” she said.

“The team at Glenview actively participate in the life of Glenview – we actually get out there and get involved.

“It’s by being present with both residents and family members that we get to have lovely conversations as we walk down the corridor or serve up morning tea.”

As well as being awarded Provider of the Year, two Glenview volunteers were finalists in their category.

“Our volunteers do a range of things such as looking after pets, doing music therapy, helping with our mobile library, deliver post or just one-on-one-companionship,” Ms O’Flaherty said.

“What they [volunteers] do really emphasises what we can do as a whole Glenview family.”
