Glenorchy Rodman Bowls Club takes out state title

GLENORCHY Rodman Bowls Club sure know how to celebrate their 50th anniversary in style.

Not only did the premier league team claim victory against Rosny Park in the Southern Pennant final, but the female division two team also won the Southern Women’s Thursday Pennant final.

Glenorchy Rodman Bowls Club president John Clarke said out of the club’s seven teams, four qualified for finals.

“It’s been our most successful year ever,” he said.

“We’ve only ever won the premier title two other times – in 1979 and 2015.

“It’s just fantastic for us to have won the prize, particularly as it’s our 50th year.”

The club’s success saw both teams head to the Bowls Tasmania Premier League state final, where the men’s team went on to become state champions after defeating North Launceston.

The club’s female division two team finished in runner-up position, which will see them advance to division one competition next season.

Committee member Tony Davie said the members were “very proud” of their success.

“They celebrated the win very hard – there were a lot of tears of happiness,” he said.

The club also saw success for its male division two team, which finished off the season as southern state champions.

Glenorchy Rodman Bowls Club is the second biggest club in the southern Tasmania with about 150 members.

The age of members range from 13 to 90 years old.
