Extending a hand of friendship

A NEW local organisation is extending a helping hand and giving back to the community by hosting a series of charity events.

‘Filipino Australian Hands of Friendship (FAHOF) Inc’ recently hosted its inaugural event, an Afternoon High Tea to raise awareness for cancer research.

FAHOF Inc president Regie Sherlock said the event was well received and supported by members, families and friends.

“The event was successful, being our first fundraising event of the year,” she said.

“We are learning in the process and hope to get more support from the members and their families.

“There was fun and delicious nibbles and unlimited cups of tea.”

Ms Sherlock said FAHOF Inc was continually looking for projects and ideas that were sustainable in assisting the local community and promoting social and community inclusion.

“Our organisation aims to inspire members and encourage them to actively take part in all or any community events and activities,” she said.

“Our next project, which was mentioned during the Afternoon High Tea, is a winter appeal project to support Homelessness in winter.

“We encourage members, their families and friends to donate excellent, clean, used condition winter blankets and clothing.

“These will be distributed free to our nominated community centre.”
