GLENORCHY City Bowls Club (GCBC) in Berriedale has enjoyed unprecedented success at all levels of competition with all teams participating in the Bowls South Summer Pennant rosters playing in their respective grand finals.
The ladies’ team set the bar high winning the Division 4 Thursday pennant and the Saturday Division 5 team was similarly successful.
Other Saturday teams in Divisions 3 and 6 were narrowly defeated as were the men’s mid-week teams in Division 2 and 4.
The Saturday Division 5 team and men’s mid-week Division 4 team both finished on top of their rosters at the end of the 2015-16 season and will both be promoted to the next division in the 2016-17 summer pennant rosters.
The ladies’ team put in an impressive performance against the Howrah team in the ladies’ Division 4 grand final played at Rosny Park finishing 10-2, with aggregate scores 58-47.
The Saturday Division 5 team did a similar demolition of Derwent City 12-2, with scores 93-68 at Buckingham.
A defining feature of the summer season has been the consistent involvement of every available male and female bowler in the weekly Saturday Non-Gender Specific Pennant where the club has fielded three teams for the first time in recent decades.
It was a similar story for the GCBC indoor teams in the Southern Indoor Summer Pennant roster with Glenorchy City Red defeating St John’s Green to win the grand final.
The Glenorchy City Green team secured a place in the preliminary final in the same roster but were defeated by St John’s Park.
With the 2015-16 summer season now over, the club is on the lookout for potential new players at all levels to ensure it builds upon its efforts in the 2016-17 summer pennant rosters.
