Claremont to host free family-friendly Australia Day event

THE Greater Claremont Precinct invites the Glenorchy community to join in some family fun and entertainment on the Village Green in Claremont on Australia Day.

Among the highlights will be a free barbecue, a mystery guest visit, giveaways, prizes, novelty races and even a “thong-throwing” contest.

“Although this may be a commentator’s nightmare, we hope that all competitors will embrace the fun nature of this event, along with the egg and spoon race, sack race and three-legged race,” precinct convenor Martin Watkins said.

“Children are invited to compete in their age group in each of these categories, while all Denison politicians and Glenorchy aldermen are invited to participate in the “Great Australian Pollie Dash”.

“With a perpetual trophy and bragging rights at stake, the event is very competitive every year.

“Matthew Groom MP is very keen to hold onto his 2015 trophy.”

The Australia Day event will be held on Tuesday 26 January from 1-3pm.

“Come along and celebrate what it means to be part of the local and national community on Australia Day,” Mr Watkins said.
