Claremont Magpies hit the trifecta

THE Claremont Football Club has hit the premiership trifecta for the second consecutive year with its colt, reserve and senior sides all taking out the win in their respective 2016 Southern Football League (SFL) grand finals.

Having won a total of 43 flags since 1963, this is the first time in the club’s history that it has secured back-to-back premierships in all three sides.

The winning streak began when the Claremont Magpies went head-to-head against the Brighton Robins during the SFL Colts Grand Final at North Hobart Oval on 24 September.

The Claremont colts came out on top, securing a 57-point margin victory with the final score resting at 16.6(102) to 6.9(45).

The victories did not stop there as the Claremont reserves took to the field next to again defeat the Brighton Robins 9.10(64) to 5.3(34).

The Claremont seniors then topped off the trifecta in a tough battle against the Lindisfarne Two Blues, taking out an eight-point win with a final score of 13.13(91) to 11.17(83).

Claremont Football Club president Christine Carr said that winning three flags back-to-back was an “amazing effort.”

“During the past few years, the entire club has worked tirelessly to improve both on and off the field and following last year’s success, we started the year with high hopes,” she said.

“The competition is becoming stronger and we knew we had to work a lot harder this year to get over the line.

“Our recent success only proves that we have achieved our objective and we will strive to continue going into 2017.”

Ms Carr said the entire premiership day was a highlight.

“The camaraderie and spirit in which the games were played was indicative of what we are as a whole,” she said.

“We thank all who were involved in our 2016 premiership trifecta and we’ll leave no stone unturned as we try and do it all again next year.”
