Celebrating children’s week

GLENORCHY City Council once again recognised the value of Children’s Week this year with a special awards ceremony held at the Moonah Arts Centre on 29 October.

Presented by Alderman Jenny Branch-Allen, the awards recognised individuals who made a significant contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of children, as well as those who had significantly enhanced their learning opportunities.

This year’s event included six recipients who each received an award for their long-standing work in the Glenorchy community.

Award winners were Cathy Leppard from Tiny Tackers Children’s Centre, Tanya Castle-Phillips from the West Moonah Community House, Chris Lewinski and Leah McKenzie from Austins Ferry Primary School and John Ploughman and Elizabeth Piesse from Holy Rosary Primary School.

In addition, the children at both Child Care Connections services were awarded participation certificates for their involvement in the consultation of “what I like about outside spaces” and the art work development for “The Big Fridge” art exhibition.
