Carollers herald the return of popular Christmas event

GLENORCHY’S premier Christmas event, Carols by Candlelight, will return in December, bringing classic Christmas carols and an evening of festive cheer to delight families of all ages.

The event, to be held at Tolosa Park, is proudly sponsored by the YMCA in partnership with Glenorchy City Council and the Lions Club of Glenorchy.

Speaking at the presentation of the sponsorship cheque to members of the Glenorchy Carols Organising Committee, YMCA chief executive officer Melissa Carlton said “the Y” was delighted to again be sponsoring one of Glenorchy’s most popular Christmas events.

“Glenorchy Carols is always such a highlight for families at this time of year and we are very pleased to be involved as a way of promoting the Y’s ‘Safe Summer Message’,” she said.

“As the YMCA is very much a family orientated organisation promoting a fun, healthy and, above all, safe summer, the beautiful carols event in Tolosa Park is the perfect time and place for us to begin promoting that message within our local community.”

Popular media personality Ryk Goddard will be back compering the event and organisers are promising a packed program with a range of school and community choirs performing alongside the Glenorchy City Concert Brass.

Popular family theatre troupe Big Monkey Theatre will return with a traditional Christmas story for children, and the all-important visit from Santa has not been forgotten.

“It should be a great event again this year,” Mr Goddard said.

“There are no clashes with other major carols this year, which is very good for patrons.

“I am a big fan of the Glenorchy Carols because there really is the opportunity for everyone to join in the carolling, which makes this event a bit special.”

Glenorchy Carols by Candlelight will be staged at Tolosa Park on Saturday 10 December, with a full onstage carols program from 7.30pm.
