Building redevelopment to link services in Glenorchy

TASMANIAN company VOS Construction and Joinery has been awarded the contract for the $753,000 redevelopment of the Glenorchy LINC and Service Tasmania building.

The two services will be integrated under the one roof to become a one-stop access point.

In addition to providing increased access to services and facilities, the co-location will enhance referral opportunities between the two services, including literacy support.

VOS Construction manager Darryn Scott said the company was proud to be associated with the development.

“We would like to congratulate the state government for investing in this project which will be good for the business community and importantly, make a positive difference to the local community,” he said.

Speaker of the House of Assembly and Liberal Member for Denison Elise Archer, who announced the redevelopment in January 2016, said the facility was a crucial community resource for lifelong learning.

“The LINC is a busy facility, with more than 260,000 visits annually and more than 60,000 instances of wi-fi access,” she said.

“The Glenorchy Service Tasmania shop also has a high volume of customers and, in recent years, it has become apparent that the current facility does not comfortably support its clients or staff.”

The revamped building will house new meeting rooms for community use.

There will also be opportunities for staff to assist clients with self-service for government transactions and LINC computers and through wi-fi.

Both LINC and Service Tasmania will continue to operate as usual during the redevelopment, although there may be some noise and minor disruptions at times.

If patrons have any concerns, they are urged to speak with a LINC or Service Tasmania staff member.

The project is scheduled for completion in late May 2016.
