A passion for ideas and learning

A CREATIVE exchange program is presenting aspiring musicians with a rare opportunity to write, arrange and produce music under the tutelage of professional composer, guitarist and electronic instrumentalist Deo Bosco.

This opportunity is just one of a series of 21 classes being run by Kickstart Arts from June to August, including cheesemaking with Bruce Kemp, tango, taketina, herbal remedies, mirror mosaics, polymer clay, painting without brushes and rites of passage.

All workshops will take place at the Kickstart Arts Centre in St Johns Park, New Town.

Producer Christian Florence said he was very enthusiastic about this Creative Exchange program.

“We at Kickstart have a passion for connecting ideas and learning,” he said.

“It’s so heartening to see hundreds of people making friends, sharing skills and knowledge and getting excited about new possibilities.”

The music course, which runs over five weeks starting 21 June, is tailored to suit all types of music makers, from bedroom enthusiasts and emerging artists to established solo artists and band members.

The course will cover writing, composing and arranging a song, producing its “sound” and best practice in getting your work out into the world.

“Music feeds the soul, it makes your heart beat faster, connects you to a bigger world of imagination and feeling,” Mr Bosco said.

“This course brings people together to explore their musical ideas and then shows them how to promote their work.”

Throughout his 30-year career, Mr Bosco has toured extensively through Europe, South Africa and Australia, performing and recording his own folk, jazz and electronic inspired music.

He has composed and recorded music for television, theatre, contemporary art, dance and spoken word.

The five two-hour Creative Exchange sessions with Deo Bosco will be held on Thursday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm from 21 June to 19 July at the Kickstart Arts Centre, St Johns Park, New Town.
