HAVE you ever said, “I wish there was more to do in Glenorchy?”
Well, now is your chance to come along to a festival-inspired event for everyone.
The Glenorchy Youth Task Force is working in partnership with youth groups from Clarence, Hobart and the Derwent Valley to deliver a fun and exciting event during Youth Week Tasmania.
‘Market in the Carpark, Youth Festival’ will be held in the Glenorchy City Council carpark on Friday 12 April from 3.30pm to 7pm.
Glenorchy City Council youth development officer Elisa Ryan said young people had taken charge of organising all the components of the festival.
This included a youth makers market with lots of handmade items for sale, food trucks, entertainment and family-friendly activities.
“Market in the Carpark, Youth Festival is about empowering youth in developing skills along with showcasing the talents of young people in the greater Hobart area,” she said.
“Representatives from each youth group have formed an event management team and have been planning the event since early 2019.”
Katie Hyland, from Glenorchy Youth Task Force, said she was excited to see what young people could achieve.
“Young people from different areas have all come together to put on this event during youth week,” she said.
“Being involved in the planning gives me a sense of being part of the community, I am so excited to see the outcome.”
Erik Roberts, from Youth Network Action Group of Clarence, said the event would be for everyone.
“The festival is a great opportunity for young people to express their ideas and creativity in a fun, friendly environment,” he said.
“We are encouraging the whole community to get along – bring your own bags, picnic blanket and sense of fun.”
